St. Antony’s church kamukincode is one of the oldest churches in the latin diocese of neyyattinkara and famous pilgrim centre in trivandrum district. At the beginning of the 18th century, the christian missionaries had started evangelization work in the interior parts of neyattinkara. Along with the missionaries blessed devasahayam pillai, the great missionary who visited this place and engaged in preaching of the gospel to the people. At that time people were living under the caste system and slavery. Common people were denied to enter the temples or offer their prayers. Schools were closed to the poor and downtrodden. At this juncture, the jesuit missionaries started their activities, by starting an education center at sasthamthala, near kamukicode. They imparted education to the common man. The ultimate aim of the missionaries was to liberate the poor from the clutches of caste and slavery.
