St. Antony’s church kamukincode is one of the oldest churches in the latin diocese of neyyattinkara and famous pilgrim centre in trivandrum district. At the beginning of the 18th century, the christian missionaries had started evangelization work in the interior parts of neyattinkara. Along with the missionaries blessed devasahayam pillai, the great missionary who visited this place and engaged in preaching of the gospel to the people. At that time people were living under the caste system and slavery. Common people were denied to enter the temples or offer their prayers. Schools were closed to the poor and downtrodden. At this juncture, the jesuit missionaries started their activities, by starting an education center at sasthamthala, near kamukicode. They imparted education to the common man. The ultimate aim of the missionaries was to liberate the poor from the clutches of caste and slavery.

They started new schools, trained local people and employed as teachers in schools they started. At the beginning of 19th-century carmelite priests were engaged in missionary activities and during their period sree narayana guru visited kamukincode, he found that under the same roof christian and hindu brethren living together in harmony and brotherhood, keeping their own faith.

He appreciated the people and exhorted them to keep on this tradition. Also praised them and stated that this place is a great model for all. He himself stated from this place, that whatever religion may people practice or follow, is not a concern for me; ultimately human beings should live as well. This tradition of brotherhood and tolerance is still continuing in this parish.
